GEO audit
GEO Audit: Will AI Engines Trust and Cite Your Site?
Quick answer
A GEO audit checks whether generative AI engines such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews can trust and cite your pages. It reviews named authorship, machine-readable dates, sources, AI-crawler access in robots.txt and llms.txt. Our $9 Quick Audit scores up to 16 pages on GEO, plus SEO and AEO, with a prioritised fix list.
Generative engine optimization (GEO) is about being a source AI assistants are willing to cite. This audit checks the trust and access signals generative engines use and lists what is missing.

What is a GEO audit?
A GEO audit looks at your site from the point of view of a generative AI engine deciding which sources to cite. Those engines favour pages with a clear author, visible dates, verifiable facts and sources, and a site they are actually allowed to crawl.
Many sites block AI crawlers by accident or publish anonymous, undated pages. The audit catches both.
What does our GEO audit check?
Each page is scored on GEO independently of SEO and AEO:
- Named author with a profile page, and Organization or Person schema.
- Machine-readable published and updated dates.
- Outbound citations and specific, checkable facts and numbers.
- robots.txt access for GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended.
- An llms.txt file that summarises the site for language models.
What do you get from the Quick Audit?
A GEO score per page, the failed checks ranked by impact, the exact fix for each and a report you can share. SEO and AEO scores come with the same run.
Scores measure readiness against documented checks. They do not measure or guarantee rankings in Google or citations in ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI Overviews — those depend on competition, authority and each engine's own choices.

What is generative engine optimization?
Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of making your content a source AI assistants are willing to cite: clearly authored, dated, factual, sourced and accessible to their crawlers.
Will a GEO audit tell me if ChatGPT cites me today?
No. The audit measures the readiness signals generative engines rely on; it does not query AI assistants or track live citations.
What is llms.txt?
llms.txt is a plain-text file at the root of your site that summarises what the site covers and links to key pages, so language models can understand it quickly. The audit checks whether you have one.
