Cards that actually work

One fact per card. A card that asks you to recall three things at once is really three cards, and it will feel impossible on the days when you only remember two of them.

The review days shown — one, three, seven, sixteen and thirty-five — are a standard expanding schedule. Each successful recall at a longer gap buys a longer gap after it, which is why forty cards reviewed five times beats four hundred read once.

Cloze cards are the fastest to make and the easiest to fool yourself with, because the surrounding sentence often gives the answer away. If you can guess a blank without knowing the material, rewrite that card as a question.
